ROCCO FIORENTINO
Rocco Fiorentino is 10 years old. He has been blind since birth when he was born four months premature, weighing only 1½ lbs. Rocco is an advocate for children who are blind and visually impaired. In July of 2007, Rocco was asked to speak on behalf of blind children in the State of New Jersey and address the State House. After his speech, the State of New Jersey allocated an increase of $1.2 million to be used for additional Braille services for blind children in New Jersey.
Rocco educates students and teachers about blindness. He gives demonstrations on his Braille writer and talks about the challenges he faces each day. Rocco hopes that he can instill his positive attitude in children who have similar challenges. Rocco is also a spokesperson for a number of children’s charities, including the Little Rock Foundation, the Variety Club Children’s Charity, March of Dimes and Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. He is an accomplished piano player, composer and singer who hopes to develop a career in the music industry.
