LARRY BONDS
In Memoriam
Thirty-five-year-old Laurence M. “Larry” Bonds Jr. began his art career at the age of three, when he entered a national drawing contest that appeared in the back of Parade magazine. Larry entered the contest simply because he loved to draw, not for any type of monetary gain. He won the contest but was disqualified because of his age.
He attended the Art Institute of Philadelphia and majored in visual communications. Larry interned on Saturday Night Live designing sets and going for coffee. He has independently worked for clients such as DC Comics, Hasbro, and Pepsi, and was a storyboard artist on the motion picture ‘DOGMA’ for director Kevin Smith.
In 2003, Larry suffered a blow to his art career when he lost his vision due to diabetic retinopathy. Initially, he believed his art career was over, until he got involved with the NJ Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired where he became aware of the various magnification devices and software that was available to him to continue what he loved best.
Larry continued to work in the art industry, and expanded into media such as painting, photorealism, and photo manipulation. Larry died suddenly on November 5, 2007. LBH is grateful that Larry had the opportunity to share his art and his creativity with Fall Festival participants.
